Thomas Codrington, a civil engineer, sets out a systematic survey of the Roman road network in Britain, following the main routes and their branches across the country and weighing the physical evidence on the ground alongside the ancient itineraries. The text is supported by small maps and a large folding chart of the roads. A classic reference for anyone interested in Roman Britain, early road-building, local history or landscape archaeology.

The book has some rubbing and wear to the cloth covers and spine ends, with a little fraying at the head of the spine and the lower corner, and the page edges are toned. There is a previous owner's bookplate on the front endpaper and some light spotting to the prelim pages, and the folding map has its original fold lines. See photos
