1. Condition of Books & Offer Validity All offers made for your books are strictly dependent on the items being received in good condition. For rare or collectable books, items must be in excellent condition and perfectly match the descriptions and photographs provided to us prior to the offer.

2. Accurate Representation & Undisclosed Flaws We strive to evaluate and price all books fairly. However, any omissions regarding a book’s condition (e.g., hidden damage, missing pages, staining) that were not disclosed to us prior to our offer will result in a reassessment. In these instances:

Important: If you fail to provide photographic proof of adequate packaging, and the books arrive damaged due to poor packing, all responsibility falls to the seller. In such cases, we reserve the right to heavily reduce or completely withdraw our offer.

DIFFICULT TO BUY / TRADE:

All Romance style, a lot of thrillers, old girls / boys annuals.

• We reserve the right to reduce our initial offer or refuse the books entirely due to misrepresentation.
• If a new, reduced offer is made and you choose not to accept it, you (the seller) will be strictly liable for all return postage costs.
• Seller-Paid Postage If you are arranging and paying for the postage, we take zero responsibility for any loss or damage incurred while the books are in the care of your chosen courier.
• Company-Paid Postage In instances where we have agreed to cover the postage costs, we will accept responsibility for loss or damage only if the packaging requirements detailed below are strictly followed.
• Exterior The box must be securely sealed with strong packing tape across all three dimensions (all seams and edges).
• Interior Plentiful padding (e.g., bubble wrap, packing peanuts, crumpled paper) must be used inside the box to completely prevent the books from shifting or getting damaged in transit.
• Photographic Proof You must take clear photographs of the packaging inside (showing the padding around the books) and outside (showing the fully taped box) before shipping.

We urgently need :

Foraging, mushrooms, self sufficiency, woodland crafts. Books such as Raynor Winn and tales of the Countryside especially with woodcut illustrations.

Specialised bird or animal ie Book of Falcons

We don’t need :

David Attenborough / Blue Planet (too many in print)

General large format / 1960/70s/80s generic hardback Nature / Countryside books

Esoteric / Witchcraft / Spirituality / Tarot

We desperately need :

New or older Tarot books or cards, witchcraft, Crowley , Aliens , specalised conspiracy / truth seeking, Yogi, astral projection

Legends and Myths / Mythology (Smaller areas ie of a certain town / culture. ) Crystals. Spiritual travelling, beatnik, drug culture ie Timothy Leary.

Ghost books / hauntings / Poltergeists / Aliens

Unusual religious / mythology books ( not historically common in the UK) – Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Pagan, Celtic, Viking, Indian etc.

We don’t need / will struggle with:

Dreams, mediums, angels, Christianity books (we can buy bibles though)

Some comics , better if bagged and boarded / valuable. Runs are also much better. Marvel or similar better than large format UK.

Annuals – Dandy Beano (Not Dandy Beano Comics) Commando or similar.

We don’t need:

Viz comics, Dandy Beano(Comics) , most 2000 AD, most magazines.

RPG / Games Workshop

We desperately need :

D&D , AD&D , all roleplay games and supplements / adventures.

Warhammer Horus Heresy urgent

Warhammer Rule books and figures.

Fighting fantasy / Lone wolf books

Young Adult/ New Adult (not the same as teen) Fiction

We need:

Sarah J Maas , Rebecca Yaros, Rainbow Rowell, Colleen Hoover, Fairyloot / Signed limited editions, sprayed edges., LGBTQIA themes, diversity etc. Most “pretty” books will be accepted from this category.

Sorry we can’t take:

Antony Horrowitz, Charlie Higson , Stephanie Meyer, Suzanne Collins, most Rick Riordan , Darren Shaw (most “YA” before 2018 approx)

Horror – All Horror / Gothic

Especially good is Lovecraft, Stephen King, Guy N Smith, Dracula , Pan Books of Horror , Dennis Wheatley, Poe, Mary Shelley

Mainstream Fantasy : (Good)

Tolkien, Philip K Dick , Michael Moorcock, any D&D / Forgotten Realms, Andrzej Sapkowski, Isacc Asimov ,Kurt Vonnegut, J G Ballard, Sarah J Maas, Robert Jordan, Joe Abercombie, Terry Brooks, Margaret Atwood, J K Rowling,

Terry Pratchett!!!!!!! Always good especially paperbacks / unseen library.

Mainstream Fantasy – Sorry no go

Anne Macaffrey, George R Martin, Terry Goodkind, Arthur C Clarke paperbacks (most 50s / 60s paperbacks) , Cassandra Claire, Tom Holt, Dean Koontz.

LOCAL BOOKS / Topographical

Scarborough , Whitby, Filey, Brid, Robin Hoods Bay, smaller villages around this area. Urgent!!!

Not Yorkshire unless pre 1900!!! Although we can buy Gordon Home.

Rejected :

London, Yorkshire, (most topographical ), maps, atlases, Yorksire Shepherdess, generic photographic / memory lane books except Scarborough and district. Most travel guides unless a donation.

Travel stories will generally be rejected / exploration etc. except older Arctic books.

Music Books

We accept nearly all music related books, except some older classical / proms books.

Biographies (Rock, dance, punk, Motown etc)

Learn to play books – Any instrument

Song sheets (Not classical) – 70s 80s can be very good .

Music books We don’t need

90s pop ie Robbie Williams, Kylie backstreet boys annuals etc.

Art Books

We need ecletic and more unusual art / photography books:

David Hockney, Martin Parr, Most Taschen art books, specialised ( one artist not collections) , Out of print, reportage photography, Tattoo books,

We don’t need :

Generic Picasso, Renoir, very famous artists (unless a definitive edition) books of general art etc. Most 70/90s coffee table art books. How to art / photography books.

Folio Books –

Modern folios tend to be worth a lot more, with some exceptions, Fiction better than non ficiton

Older Folios most are now very tough to sell.

Box Sets tend to have good value. (Most box sets even non folio)

Rare 1st Editions (Not Harry Potters)

Difficult to define as most 1st editions don’t hold value well. It generally needs to be Hardback, classic cover and the first book of a famous author before they were famous.

Crime Thrillers (Fiction)

We are very well stocked on most authors in the crime section, and have a large amount of books coming in . We may reject many crime thrillers even as trade ins unfortunately.

We especially need LJ Ross , Agatha Christie , Cormac McCArthy and Mick Heron.

Please do not be offended if we can’t buy your books, there are many amazing books that we cannot sell due to space and lack of demand, there are 125,000,000 different titles out there looking for good homes and we cannot house them all !! 🙂

Online market

Also bear in mind that if a book is available on Ebay for £2-3 with free postage we will not be able to pay much money for it, even if it is saleable (please look at the lowest not the highest price and check completed listings) –

We try our best to be fair with our cash offers if we want the books, if not then maybe try to sell them yourselves, another bookshop or ziffit /Ebay. We do pay over ziffit prices for most books that we have confidence in selling, especially the higher value books.
