Written by George Findlay, general manager of the London and North-Western Railway, this is a detailed account of how a large Victorian railway company was built, equipped and run day to day. It covers subjects such as the track and works, signalling, locomotives and rolling stock, passenger and goods traffic, and the organisation of staff, and includes illustrations. It will appeal to railway historians, LNWR enthusiasts and anyone interested in how Britain's railways were managed in the late nineteenth century.
The book has marks, stains and rubbing on the cloth covers, with fraying at the head and tail of the spine and worn, bumped corners. The front inner hinge is cracked along its length with the spine lining exposed, the top edge of the text block is dust-soiled and appears split, and the pages are toned with age. See photos
