Daniel Defoe's classic tale of a young Englishman who defies his family to go to sea and, after a shipwreck, is left the only survivor on a remote island. Told in his own voice, the story follows his many years of making a life from what he can salvage and grow, his struggles with solitude and faith, and the events that finally bring him home. It suits readers of early English fiction and adventure stories, and collectors of older illustrated editions of the classics.
The book has heavy wear to the binding, with cracked and crazed leather on the spine, chipping at the head of the spine, fraying along the joints, worn and bumped corners, and broad scuffed bands and rubbing on both boards; inside, the front inner hinge is split, the pages show toning and foxing, the front free endpaper has a stain, a small nick at the top edge and an 1833 ownership inscription, and there is a bookseller's label on the front pastedown.
