A booklet from Tyne and Wear County Council Museums documenting the traditional knitted ganseys worn by fishermen on the North East coast of England. It brings together stitch patterns from different fishing villages such as Whitby and Filey, alongside period photographs of inshore fishing communities around the turn of the twentieth century, and explains the traditional method of knitting in the round. Of interest to knitters, textile historians and anyone with an interest in the maritime heritage of Yorkshire and the North East.
The pamphlet has some scuffs and rubbing to the blue covers, particularly along the back cover edge and the front fore-edge, with a small chip to the front cover edge and some marks and wear to the corners; inside, the pages are clean and bright, and it comes with loose printed pattern sheets and a sample of wool.
