R. C. Bell's reference work on the copper trade tokens issued by merchants and manufacturers across Britain and Ireland between 1787 and 1804, when official small change was in short supply. Arranged by county, it illustrates the tokens and describes their designs, legends, edges, makers and the businesses behind them, with notes on local history. A useful handbook for collectors of eighteenth-century tokens and anyone interested in British economic and local history.
This is an ex-library copy with a reference-only label on the front pastedown, library stamps on the front free endpaper and the title page area, and a stamp on page 19. There are library sticker remnants with tape and residue on the spine of the boards and on the dust jacket. The dust jacket is grubby and marked, with rubbing and small chips along the edges, light creasing, a small pencil mark on the back panel, and soiling to the spine panel. The boards look clean, and there is some light browning and marking to the endpapers. See photos
